General Questions

What age can my child start lessons?

This really comes down to the instrument that the child would like to learn. For drums, we generally recommend a minimum of Age 7 due to the size of the instrument. For all other instruments, we teach as young as 5 years old.

Is it just for kids?

Absolutely not! We teach students of all ages so whether you're 7 or 70, we'll get your started on your musical journey with us.

Can we try a lesson before committing?

Of course! We offer your first lesson as a free taster session, which means you can get to know your new teacher and experience Apollo Music School without any obligation to continue if it's not for you!

Do you teach grades and exams?

We do! We teach a variety of different syllabuses to suit the students needs, so whether you're into rock, pop or classical, you can achieve qualifications in music while learning the songs you love!

Do we need to bring our own instrument?

For guitar, bass, and vocal lessons we recommend bringing your own instrument so you get used to it. Drums and pianos are provided at the school. If you’re not sure about buying an instrument yet, we can give advice on what to get and where from. We also offer instruments that you can loan for practicing at home.

How do I book or change lesson times?

You can contact us directly by email, phone, or through our website live chat. We’ll always do our best to accommodate changes, though regular time slots are recommended for consistency.

Are your teachers dbs checked?

Yes — all our teachers are fully DBS checked and follow our safeguarding policies. We want parents to feel reassured that their children are learning in a safe and supportive environment.

How do I support my child's practice at home?

We’ll guide students on what to practice each week and give clear goals to work on between lessons. Even 10–15 minutes a day makes a huge difference. Parents don’t need to be musicians themselves — just encouraging regular practice and showing interest in what your child is learning helps a lot.

Membership Questions

HOw many lessons am I paying for?

Our memberships are billed on a 4 weekly schedule which grants you 4 lessons per block. This normally equates to 1 lesson per week.

What happens If i'm ill or on holiday?

If you're ill or cannot attend your lesson for some reason, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice. We will always do our best to offer a make up lesson for missed lessons that our cancelled outside the 24 hour notice period. If we are unable to do so, we will refund the lesson at the discounted membership rate.

What happens if the teacher cancels?

If your teacher is away or unable to teach your lesson, we will try to provide cover for the lesson initially. If we cannot provide cover for any reason, we'll offer you a make up lesson or a refund for the lesson if this isn't doable.

What about school holidays, bank holidays and Christmas?

We teach all year round so your lessons will run as normal through school holidays and bank holidays. At Christmas, we normally close for 2 weeks so your membership fee will be adjusted to reflect the 2 missing lessons in December.

Is this a long term contract?

Short answer - No! We don't do any long term contracts and your membership runs on a rolling 4 week basis. You are free to cancel at anytime and we will adjust your membership fees accordingly.

What happens if I want to sign up for a membership in the middle of a billing cycle?

If you'd like to sign up to one of our memberships, you don't have to wait until the next cycle. You can sign up for your membership at any time and just pay for your lessons as normal until the next billing cycle starts.
